Stir Fry Baby Bak Choy

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. This year I am especially grateful for my boyfriend who came all the way to Michigan to spend Thanksgiving with me. We had our own little Thanksgiving celebration. We made bountiful amounts of food which I will be writing entries on so please check back regularly!

It has to be Baby Bak Choy not large American Bak Choy!

Chinese Style Asparagus

When I was a kid, we used to go to my uncle's house for dinner. My aunt would make this really delicious asparagus dish with oyster sauce on top. I bought asparagus and had oyster sauce so I decided to re-invent my childhood.

College French Toast

Hi! I am back. I spent the last three weeks moving in, prepping for medical school, and is now done with my first week as the lowest on the medical totem pole, a year 1 medical student.

Having just moved in, I don't have a lot of cooking ingredients to work with so this would be a great recipe for college students.

Relocating

I will be relocating to another state and starting professional school so I won't be cooking anything new and exciting until I get into the swing of things. If you have any suggestions of what I would make next, feel free to leave a comment.

Bloomin' Onion Bread

Taste more impressive than it looks. This was mouth watering good! Not only is sourdough one of the best bread known to man, adding butter and Monterrey jack cheese makes this the second best bread I have ever eaten (my favorite is garlic bread)

I tried a baked mac n cheese recipe before and that turned out disastrous so I decided to give a no-bake mac n cheese recipe. Turned out tasty!

Guy behind the seafood counter: Why yes we do. (flex) No we don't today. Come back tomorrow.

We ended up going to another store.

Snicker Doodles

I didn't discover Snicker Doodles until my sophomore year in college when my roommate exposed me to them. They are pretty much sugar cookies with a sugar and cinnamon coating.

Nian Gao

One popular dessert eaten during Chinese New Years is Nian Gao (年糕). One of the reasons it's eaten during this time is because the words "nian gao (粘糕)", meaning "sticky cake," sounds just like the words 年高, which means something along the lines of "growing taller every year." Similar to "a pinch to grow an inch," this is just used to wish the person good health in the new year. (wikihow)

Simple, and healthier than french fries and tastier than just plain baking a potato.

Fried Rice with Dried Scallops and Broccoli Stems

Also known as the healthy man fried rice. Well I refer to it as that. My uncle who has high cholesterol orders this whenever we go out to dinner.

The first time I had Cream of Mushroom Soup was in the college dining commons my sophomore year. Every since that day I would jump with joy whenever I see it on the menu.

Homefries

I love breakfast food and whenever I am at a breakfast or brunch place I always have to order an entree that comes with home fries!

Carrot Fried Rice

Probably the most famous Chinese dish. If there is a lot of left over rice, then there will be fried rice the next day! Some people say fried rice is the best when it is made with day old rice.

Congee with Chicken and Spring Onions

There is this French Vietnamese place that gives out a small bowl of complementary chicken congee when you eat there. It is so good. I want to go back just because of the chicken congee.

Chocolate Chip Pancakes

My boyfriend does not have honey or syrup but I told him I would make him pancakes so we used some chocolate chips he had left over.

Congee with Shrimp and Spring Onions

Congee is best when feeling under the weather or the weather is unpleasant.
Wikipedia definition of congee: Congee is a type of rice porridge popular in many Asian countries. It can be eaten or served with a side dish. Rice Pudding

During one of my lunch breaks I walked pass this rice pudding shop called Loving Cup. I went in and had some. I ordered too much so I got tired of it pretty fast but it sparked my interest in making my own. I found this recipe in a book while browsing at Borders.

Guacamole

I was once at a party where they had Mexican food. Burritos with chips and dip. One of the dips were "guacamole." The reason for the quotations is because it was just mashed up avocados. What exactly is guacamole?
Wikipedia definition: Guacamole is an avocado-based dip that originated in Mexico.[1] It is traditionally made by mashing ripe avocados with a molcajete (mortar and pestle) with salt. Some recipes call for limited tomato, onion, garlic, lime juice or lemon juice, and/or seasonings.

Stir Fry Vegetables with Oyster Sauce

Have you noticed that Asians tend to love veggies more than Americans? That is because we know how to cook it! This is usually the token veggie dish when eating dinner at an Asian restaurant when doing family style.

Old Fashion Pancakes

Who doesn't love pancakes? It is mother's day and I asked what my mom what she wanted. She asked me to make her pancakes. Easy!

First Entry

I love to eat but I also realize I love to cook. I wanted to make a blog so I can document my adventures in cooking. I am a beginner so this will also be a blog about what I am learning and teaching myself.
